Dichroic Glass
Dichroic Glass
These beautiful handmade dichroic glass beads are made by the American designer Paula Radke.
“Dichroic” is defined as the property of having more than one colour, especially when viewed from different angles. The glass itself does not produce the colours; it is the dielectric coating of micro-thin layers of metal oxides and quartz applied to the surface of the glass which produces an “interference filter” that creates the varied colours we see.
Depending on the thickness of each layer; what metal oxide or quartz was used; and the order in which it was applied, it created the best effect and colours our eyes observe. “After 20 years of using dichroic glass, I still encounter challenges and experience many surprises.” - Paula Radke
These finest dichroic lampwork glass beads are the essential component to create the truly special piece of jewellery art.
Please note that as these beads are handmade the colours and sizes will vary.
