Shibori silk ribbon

This exquisite silk ribbon is hand made with an traditional Japanese dyeing technique called Shibori. The ribbon is made using the Arashi Shibori technique, also called pole-wrapping shibori. The silk is wrapped diagonally around a pole and bound tightly with thread The result is a pleated silk ribbon with a diagonal pattern. "Arashi" is Japanese for “storm”. The ribbon can be ironed flat to reveal the pattern or used pleated. It lends itself to natural flowing shapes in jewellery making.
